Panspermia is the idea that life is common throughout the Galaxy. The concept of life dispersing throughout the Galaxy by means of traveling microbiotic life-forms has been around well before the study of exoplanets got off the ground. However, an interesting implication has been explored in a 2012 paper by Hara et al. in which the notion is advanced that it could be “raining life” on Earth right now. In other words, if life is traveling thoughout the galaxy, Earth is of course one of the possible destinations.
